Neuromuscular Orthotics

Neuromuscular orthoses can play an important role in successful rehabilitation. They help to promote normal function, control unwanted movements and reduce contractures for individuals with a neurological condition.

These orthotics can help to manage problems associated with the nervous system, for example stroke (CVA), multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy (for adults and children) and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Treatments may include ankle-foot orthoses, orthopaedic footwear, dynamic Lycra
® garment, upper limb splinting or serial casting.

At Steeper Clinic we work with patients and their physiotherapists to develop a prescription that works towards achievable and appropriate goals. These may include:

  • Reducing existing contractures or muscle tightness
  • Improving balance
  • Improving walking speed
  • Reducing energy expenditure
  • Improving joint position and posture
  • Reducing pain
  • Improving safety during your normal daily activities

Our experienced clinicians decide on a prescription by working with you to identify your treatment goal and consider your previous prescriptions, alongside a full biomechanical and neuromuscular assessment.

At Steeper Clinic we pride ourselves on our holistic approach to treatment, as we work closely with therapists to maximise our patient’s recovery potential and help regain their independence. We also work closely with case managers and solicitors, to form a seamless link between them and the patient’s rehabilitation team.

Our clinicians have many years of experience working with all types of neurological deficits to deliver the best results for you.  To discuss your rehabilitation needs, contact our experts today.
